Contract Award Notice ecm_60992 Soil Modelling for Landscape Recovery Pilot Project
Background There is a wealth of evidence on the potential productivity and sustainability opportunities offered by improved nutrient resource use efficiency and greater circularity. In addition to more precise and targeted application approaches, processing technology that produces improved organic fertilisers is becoming widespread. Additives and active ingredients added into fertiliser products can improve plant uptake. And industrial carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology could in future reduce manufacturing emissions from more conventional fertilisers. Terms such as 'enhanced efficiency fertilisers', 'low carbon fertilisers' and 'low emissions fertilisers' are increasingly used (often used inter-changeably) but are poorly defined. Comparison of benefits and risks of the wide range of products is also difficult. For the purpose of this ITT, 'enhanced efficiency' and 'low-emissions' fertilisers are assumed to be equivalent, referring to novel products that by way of their ingredient content or manufacturing process, give rise to reduced greenhouse gas and/or ammonia emissions over their full lifecycle, as compared to conventional equivalents. This ITT sub-divides enhanced efficiency fertilisers into three categories; plant biostimulants; inhibited fertilisers; controlled release fertilisers. Safe and effective use of enhanced efficiency fertilisers could significantly increase resource use efficiency and crop quality. Concurrently, they may release land from food production, improve environmental quality whilst reducing waste and greenhouse gas intensity. Plant bio-stimulants can also offer crop protection (e.g. climate, disease and pest) benefits, whilst some products offer other co-benefits (e.g. soil improvement). Increased consumer demand for healthy/environmentally sound products, high fertiliser prices and ambitious HMG climate and environmental goals are expected to drive increased adoption of enhanced efficiency fertili
Establish, build and lead a new team at pace to support all aspects of the delivery of the NI programme. Working with the NI equivalent department of Defra - DAERA - to support the establishment of permanent infrastructure at points of entry and other delivery requirements in Northern Ireland for the completion of checks of Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) goods as they enter NI, Working with Defra's digital and SPS colleagues and aligning with work led by the DD for Food Sector Support to deliver the Defra components of an end-to-end digitised approach to processing the movement and trade of agrifood commodities GB to NI. Working with the relevant programme SROs, to ensure the operational requirements of new regulatory regimes for vet meds, chemicals, pesticides and other Defra highly regulated goods are delivered, including new information management systems as required. Scoping and supporting the delivery and further delivery requirements under the programme as required. A critical part of this role will be to build effective relationships and ways of working with the other teams in the Northern Ireland Directorate, DAERA and the other relevant delivery teams in Defra (e.g. SPS IT team). You will also be a member of the NI directorate senior management team. As such, you will regularly deputise for the Director, and work with senior stakeholders across Government and in Northern Ireland. Additional information: Please note that Defra procurement uses an E-tendering system for Procurement activities. This is currently provided by Bravo Solutions. To access appropriate tendering and contractual documents, please access the E-Tendering portal at https://defra.bravosolution.co.uk", ensuring that your registration includes "Defra". If you have any problems with this system, please contact Bravo on their telephone helpline number 0800 368 4850 or by emailing them at help@bravosolution.co.uk.
The MEOPL Framework of indicators was established in 2012 as a partnership between Defra, Natural England, National Parks England (NP, the National Association of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (NAAONB) and Historic England, supported by the Forestry Commission and Environment Agency. The core aim of the programme has been to provide protected landscape bodies with reliable national data about aspects of the natural and cultural environment to inform their management planning, annual monitoring, and work programmes. The data supports a set of indicators tailored to the criteria used to designate and shape the role of National Parks and AONBs. These data help to provide trend information which can be used to inform contributions made by all parties who have an influence on landscape conservation and enhancement within protected landscapes. The method for the MEOPL Framework is described in the NE report NERR055 (published 2014) available for download at: http://publications.naturalengland.org.uk/publication/5646437593382912
